Azerbaijan, Georgia Boost Military Cybersecurity Cooperation

Military cybersecurity experts from Azerbaijan and Georgia met in Tbilisi to deepen cooperation in digital defense in the face of rising threats.

Lieutenant Colonel Elshan Hasanov, head of Azerbaijan’s Cybersecurity Service, and Luka Mgeladze, head of Georgia’s Cybersecurity Bureau, led the discussions on new cybersecurity strategies, opportunities for joint projects, and sharing operational experience in military cyber defense.

Ahead of the talks, military ICT specialists from both countries held separate sessions on communication systems, IT infrastructure, server management, and the use of artificial intelligence in defense.

The discussions reflect both governments’ intent to integrate advanced technologies into their armed forces and expand cooperation beyond conventional cybersecurity toward broader digital modernization.

Cybersecurity Partnerships in South Caucasus

The meeting highlights how both countries view cybersecurity as an increasingly critical component of regional defense.

In recent years, Azerbaijan and Georgia have both reported cyber incidents targeting government and defense networks.

Georgian officials have pointed to several attempted intrusions linked to foreign actors, while Azerbaijani agencies have strengthened their response capabilities through the national Computer Emergency Response Team.

Both have also expanded partnerships with international allies. Georgia participates in NATO and EU resilience initiatives, and Azerbaijan has invested in upgrading its military’s cyber units and network protection infrastructure.
