Estonia has received a batch of GMLRS guided rockets from the United States with an engagement range of around 70 kilometres for HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, which was announced.
Estonian public broadcaster ERR reported this, citing the country’s Minister of Defence, Martin Herem.
The order also includes the delivery of ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles, capable of striking targets at ranges of up to 300 kilometres.
However, in spring 2026, the United States suspended missile deliveries due to the war with Iran. The US has yet to set a date for the delivery of ATACMS.
According to Herem, all equipment and weapons covered by the original contract and cleared for delivery have now arrived in Estonia.
Estonian Defence Forces currently operate six M142 HIMARS launchers. In April 2026, the Estonian Centre for Defence Investments signed a contract with Lockheed Martin to procure three additional systems.
The additional launchers are expected to arrive in the country in 2027.
GMLRS rockets are designed for high-precision strikes against ground targets. A standard HIMARS launch pod can hold six of these munitions, while the ATACMS accommodates a single missile.
In addition to GMLRS and ATACMS, HIMARS can use the newer PrSM tactical ballistic missiles. Their stated range is nearly 500 kilometres, and each launch pod can accommodate two missiles.
Militarnyi previously reported that the United States had begun shipping HIMARS munitions to Estonia following delays in fulfilling the order.
At the same time, Estonia is developing its rocket artillery capabilities with South Korean K239 Chunmoo systems. The launchers are expected to arrive in 2027, while ammunition deliveries are scheduled for late 2027 or early 2028.
In addition, Estonia expects to receive other types of weaponry with ranges of over 50 to approximately 100 kilometres in 2026–2027. These include artillery munitions and drones.
