Munich-based Hensoldt has signed a long-term framework agreement to supply its proprietary Spexer 2000 family of compact, ground-based surveillance radars to German defense contracting partner Rheinmetall Air Defence.
The package will be distributed to Rheinmetall’s counter-unmanned aerial system and Skyranger 30 short-range air defense turret products.
The agreement will run until the 2030s and carries a potential value in the high three-digit million-euro range.
Orders for this project will involve flexible, large-scale radar deliveries under binding procurement terms, allowing multiple Rheinmetall Group segments to place orders.
Supporting Proven Assets
Hensoldt’s Spexer 2000 radars are designed for automatic detection and classification of ground, maritime, and aerial targets.
Its standard configuration can detect targets up to 36 kilometers (22 miles) away, including personnel, light vehicles, small boats, autonomous systems, and low-level aircraft.
The system is already fielded by the German Armed Forces, supporting field camp protection, high-energy laser drone defense, as well as multiple-range air defense missions.
Rheinmetall’s flagship Skyranger 30, which is also operational under Berlin’s military, is a mobile weapon system integrating a 30-millimeter cannon, sensors, and optional missiles to counter airborne threats from drones to fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
“Together, Rheinmetall and HENSOLDT are making an important contribution to strengthening the air defence capabilities of the German Armed Forces and allied nations,” Hensoldt said.
“The cooperation underscores the shared goal of strengthening the European defence industry, keeping critical technologies available and providing long-term support for the operational readiness of modern air defence systems.”
