
Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of Defence Industries, announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Turkey and Spain for the Jet Trainer Aircraft Project. Görgün described the agreement as historic.
Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of Defence Industries, announced the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Turkey and Spain for the Jet Trainer Aircraft Project, and said: “The Memorandum of Understanding, which will form the basis of our cooperation with Spain, our old NATO ally, for the Jet Trainer Aircraft Project, was signed between our Presidency of Defence Industries and the Spanish Ministry of Defence.”
Görgün did not elaborate on the details of the memorandum of understanding, but it is clear that the HÜRJET jet trainer aircraft developed by TAI is the main focus of this agreement. In addition, Görgün made the following statements on his social media account:
“This important agreement is not only an indicator of Turkey’s goal of developing independent technologies, but also a sign of strong cooperation with friendly and allied countries. I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all SSB units, the valuable team of TAI, the Turkish Ambassador to Madrid and the Turkish TAF Attaché who attended the ceremony on behalf of the Presidency. Guided by visionary leadership, Turkey will continue to consolidate its strength in the defense industry worldwide. I wish this agreement to be beneficial.”
According to previous information, Spain was planning to procure 24 jet trainers to replace its aging F-5 trainers by 2030.Negotiations between Turkey and Spain on this basis had already taken place in the previous months.HÜRJET even flew to Spain in July 2024. Spain was evaluating the Boeing-Saab T-7, KAI T-50 and Alenia Aermacchi M-346 along with HÜRJET in the training aircraft project. As a matter of fact, HÜRJET was the winner of this race.
