The Indian Army has awarded defense firm MKU Limited a 6.6-billion-rupee ($75-million) contract to supply 29,762 Netro NW 3000 Night Vision Weapon Sights.
This deal is one of the largest electro-optics orders ever placed by the service.
The company said it was finalized under the defense ministry’s emergency procurement powers and marks a major step toward building India’s domestic defense manufacturing capacity.
Designed and produced under the Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured category, the Netro NW 3000 is compatible with standard assault rifles and enhances target detection and engagement capabilities in low-light and night operations.
MKU said the system underwent extensive field trials before selection, demonstrating reliability and accuracy across multiple terrains.
India’s Push for Self-Reliance
The Netro NW 3000 is part of MKU’s expanding electro-optics portfolio under its Netro Optronics division.
This was developed to improve soldiers’ night-fighting capabilities through enhanced clarity, range, and ease of use.
The acquisition supports the government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) initiative, which aims to strengthen India’s defense industry and reduce reliance on imports.
Under the effort, India has accelerated domestic procurement, including contracts for BEL’s handheld thermal imagers, ideaForge drones, and Larsen & Toubro’s K9 Vajra self-propelled howitzers.
MKU, which already supplies protective gear and electro-optics to more than 230 security forces worldwide, said it will continue investing in indigenous manufacturing to back India’s modernization drive and boost the operational readiness of its armed forces.
