Poland Advances Signals Intelligence Fleet With Second Ship From Saab

Saab has launched Poland’s second DELFIN-class signals intelligence vessel, the ORP Henryk Zygalski.

The ship is the second and final unit in Poland’s two-vessel DELFIN program, following the July 2025 launch of the first ship, ORP Jerzy Różycki.

Both ships will now undergo outfitting and integration of their mission equipment before proceeding to sea trials and entering service.

Once equipped, the DELFIN ships will use electronic intelligence systems to detect, identify, and analyze maritime electronic signals.

Saab serves as the program’s prime contractor, with Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. handling construction and Polish firm MMC providing design support.

Moreover, Saab will supply and integrate the mission suites, with additional participation from Polish defense industry partners.

Deliveries are planned in 2027 and 2028 after completion of integration work and trials.

“With this important project we are strengthening cooperation between Swedish and Polish industries in support of European security in the Baltic Sea region,” said Mats Wicksell, head of Saab’s business area Kockums.

Saabs Latest Polish Contracts

Poland has added several Saab programs to its ongoing defense modernization plans.

In November last year, Warsaw selected Saab’s A26 submarines to replace its last Soviet-era Kilo-class unit.

The purchase falls under the “Orka” initiative, which seeks to retire the aging platform in favor of three modern submarines capable of deploying light and heavy torpedoes and laying naval mines.

Earlier, in September 2025, Saab and Poland’s WB Group announced a strategic cooperation framework aimed at evaluating joint industrial opportunities in unmanned systems, naval platforms, and border protection technologies.
