The Polish armed forces have signed another contract with Polish defense company WB Group to purchase several FlyEye mini uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), including repair, logistics, and training services.
Deliveries are scheduled by the end of 2025. The deal is part of a larger framework agreement signed on September 5, 2023 for 1,600 FlyEye drones or 400 sets of uncrewed aerial systems.
Previous orders in 2024 included seven FlyEye drones in April and 52 more in November.
Apart from the Polish military, the FlyEye drone is also in service with the Polish Border Guard, as well as the armed forces of other countries, including Malaysia and Ukraine.
Built for Reconnaissance
Developed and produced by WB Group, the FlyEye is a modular, close-range reconnaissance platform that allows quick assembly and is launchable in under 10 minutes, enabling rapid operation even in confined or urban areas.
An observation head mounted beneath the fuselage carries visible-light and infrared cameras, allowing fast switching between video feeds for day-and-night surveillance. The drone can also integrate with light precision armament and an acoustic sensor to detect the source of enemy fire.
The FlyEye features a 3.6-meter (12-foot) wingspan and a 1.8-meter (6-foot) length, reaching 60 to 120 kilometers (37 to 75 miles) per hour and altitudes up to 3,000 meters (9,842 feet).
Powered by a silent electric engine and lithium-polymer batteries, it has over 2.5 hours of endurance and a 180-kilometer (112-mile) line-of-sight transmission range.
The system’s parachute-assisted landing protects its payload while ensuring precise recovery within 10 meters (33 feet).
Dual ground control stations, advanced anti-spin and anti-icing systems, and automatic flight tracking further enhance operational safety and flexibility.
