The US State Department has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to Norway of GBU-39B Small Diameter Bomb Increment I munitions, enhancing the country’s precision strike capabilities.
Norway has requested the purchase of 816 GBU-39B munitions for an estimated $113 million.
The potential deal includes spare parts, logistics, and technical support services.
“The proposed sale will improve Norway’s capability to meet current and future threats and increase its interoperability with the US and other NATO members,” the Defense Security Cooperation Agency stated.
Boeing is designated as the principal contractor for the proposed sale, with any offset arrangements to be determined through negotiations with Norway.

The SDB employs a smart carriage capable of carrying four 250-pound (113-kilogram) class guided air-to-surface munitions, increasing payload efficiency.
The munition features a multi-purpose warhead capable of both penetration and blast/fragmentation effects, enabling it to defeat high-priority fixed and stationary targets.
It employs a GPS-aided inertial navigation system and can be launched from fighter aircraft or bombers using either internal bays or external hardpoints.
The weapon has a standoff range of over 60 nautical miles (69 miles/111 kilometers).
