STM, one of Turkey’s leading defense industry manufacturers, unveiled for the first time the “STM NETA”, an Unmanned Autonomous Underwater Vehicle developed with domestic and national capabilities. The first operational mission of STM NETA, developed by STM with its own resources, will be the detection of mines.

STM Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş. has signed another game-changing technology that will be the protector of the depths in the Blue Homeland.

STM realized the first demonstration of the Unmanned Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (IOSA) Project “STM NETA”, which combines its engineering capabilities in the field of military ships and unmanned autonomous systems.

Guleryüz STM NETA Ready for Both Military and Civilian Missions Özgür Güleryüz, General Manager of STM, stated that STM has developed many national surface and underwater naval platforms for both the Turkish Navy and friendly and sister countries;

“Dynamic developments in the battlefield show us that the use of unmanned aerial and naval platforms is becoming increasingly widespread. As Turkey’s leading engineering company in the field of military maritime, we have combined our maritime competencies, autonomous capabilities in tactical unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and command and control engineering, and developed our national unmanned autonomous underwater vehicle with our own resources. Our ‘STM NETA 300’ shallow water underwater vehicle, which we are introducing today, is just the beginning for us and the first member of the family. STMNETA 300’s first mission will be the detection, classification and identification of mines. Thanks to its modular and flexible design, high level of autonomy and indigenous software, STM NETA 300 will offer solutions to meet both military and civilian needs. We are aiming for a product family that can be used for a wide range of tasks, from reconnaissance, surveillance, intelligence gathering, contribution to anti-submarine warfare and the destruction of explosives in the military field to the inspection of pipelines and geophysical surveys in the civilian field. After intensive work on STM NETA 300, the first member of the family, we have entered the pool and sea tests phase. We will share these images in the very near future.”

“NETA Family Will Increase Our Deterrence in the Blue Homeland”

Güleryüz informed that the STM Unmanned Autonomous Underwater Family will expand;

“We aim to develop our medium and large class unmanned underwater vehicles that can operate in deeper depths and in different types of operations. In this way, we envision to produce solutions for operational needs in accordance with all usage concepts required by our Armed Forces. We believe that the STM NETA Family will play an active role in protecting the depths of the Blue Homeland and increase our deterrence. At the same time, we will have created a product family with high export potential for friendly and brotherly countries.”

Detect Mines at 300 Meters Depth

The name of the “STM NETA” Family comes from NETA, a naval expression meaning smooth, safe and always ready. Developed by STM engineers with domestic and national capabilities, the “STM NETA 300” Unmanned Autonomous Underwater Vehicle was the first member of this family.

STM NETA 300, which can be carried by two people with its compact structure and flexible, modular design, has a domestic and national design, has the capacity to operate up to 300 meters deep and can reach a maximum speed of 5 knots, and is equipped with a battery that can operate for up to 24 hours.

The national İOSA will contribute to Mine Countermeasure (MCM) Operations at a depth of 300 meters. With its autonomous use concept, the national IOSA will scan mine-hazardous sea areas with side-scan sonar and gap-filling sonar, allowing the user to detect, classify and identify mines or mine-like objects as quickly and effectively as possible. The vehicle also has the option to integrate synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) to achieve a wider scanning area and high horizontal resolution.

The STM NETA 300, which can be launched from any type of surface platform and quickly deployed to the mission area, can also contribute intensively to search and rescue (SAR) operations by scanning a wide area. With its side-scan sonar and sensitive navigation systems, it can obtain highly accurate data in the detection of targets and underwater wrecks.

The STM NETA 300 offers a wide range of uses with different and durable configuration options, ranging from a basic configuration of 70 kg to 85 kg.

Both Military and Civilian Use

Thanks to its advanced modular design, STM NETA 300 provides a wide range of civilian and military applications.

In military operations, STM NETA 300 supports intelligence, reconnaissance, surveillance and rapid environmental assessment, anti-submarine warfare, explosive ordnance disposal and port defense. In civilian use, STM NETA 300 can perform tasks in areas such as seabed and environmental assessment, pipeline inspection and observation, geophysical survey and observation, investigation of offshore renewable energy sources and marine archaeology.
