Denmark has welcomed four new F-35 fighter jets, which arrived at Skrydstrup air base in the country’s south, following a delivery flight from Lockheed Martin’s facility in Texas.

With the latest delivery, Copenhagen now has 15 F-35A jets, while six more remain in the US for training.

Overall, Denmark has ordered 27 F-35s, with the final six expected to be delivered throughout next year.

F-35 Program

Copenhagen’s F-35 program has progressed steadily over the past several years to replace the Royal Danish Air Force’s aging F-16s.

In 2023, the first F-35s arrived in Denmark, marking an important step forward.

Preparations for delivery began in 2020, and the program was supported from the start by a 2017 Danish Parliament approval covering funding through 2026.

Boost Defense

The nation increased its defense commitments in early 2025.

In February, the country committed over 3 percent of its GDP, around $7 billion, to defense spending over the next two years.

The initiative includes launching an Acceleration Fund to fast-track key investments and allowing direct awards for acquisitions.

That same month, Denmark joined seven other NATO allies in a major exercise across Poland and the Baltic, focusing on improving intelligence and surveillance assets.

In January, the Scandinavian country announced a $2-billion plan to strengthen security in the Arctic, a region of growing strategic importance between the US and Russia.
