Pakistan carried out a training launch of its newly inducted Fatah-4 ground-launched cruise missile as part of the country’s push to modernize its arsenal amid heightened regional security concerns.

The test demonstrated the 750-kilometer (466-mile) range of the missile, which officials described as an indigenous system equipped with advanced avionics, navigation aids, and the ability to fly close to the terrain to help evade enemy air defenses.

According to the military, the system can deliver precise strikes while improving the survivability of Pakistan’s conventional missile forces.

The Fatah-4 is part of the Army Rocket Force Command, a branch that has become increasingly important to Islamabad’s conventional deterrence strategy. It builds on earlier missiles in the Fatah series, particularly the Fatah-1 and Fatah-2, which were inducted in recent years with shorter ranges.

Pakistan’s Missile Modernization

The announcement comes as Pakistan continues to balance its missile modernization with India’s expanding defense capabilities. New Delhi has fielded advanced cruise and ballistic missiles, alongside layered air and missile defense systems.

Over the past two years, Pakistan has unveiled several new systems under its indigenous production push.

In August 2025, the military formally established the Army Rocket Force Command, a branch dedicated to conventional missile forces. The command oversees the Fatah series and other rocket artillery systems designed to extend range and precision strike capability.

In late 2024, Pakistan’s navy tested a ship-launched ballistic missile with a range of 350 kilometers (217 miles), showcasing a parallel effort to give its maritime forces conventional strike capacity.

Other developments include ongoing work on longer-range cruise missiles, such as the Babur series, which has been tested in both land-attack and sea-launched variants.
