Kyiv Flags Asian-Made Components in Russian Missile, Artillery Production

Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (HUR) has released new information on foreign-made industrial equipment that Russia is using in weapons production, according to The Kyiv Independent.

Reports note that machinery from several East Asian companies is being used to produce glide-bomb kits, missiles, and artillery shells.

According to HUR’s data quoted by The Kyiv Independent, equipment from the Chinese company Hision is being used by Russia’s Tactical Missile Armament Corporation to manufacture guidance and correction modules for glide bombs and cruise missiles.

Machinery from Japan’s Matsuura Machinery Corporation was also cited as supporting the production of Kh-59 and Kh-101 missiles used in strikes on Ukraine.

Systems produced by Samsung Machine Engineering Company have reportedly been used to manufacture casings for unguided rockets and large-caliber ammunition.

Taiwan’s AKIRA SEIKI equipment was cited as supporting the production of mortar-round stabilizers at Russia’s Burevestnik plant.

Foreign-Made Components

Kyiv has repeatedly stressed that Russian weapons contain a wide range of foreign-made components and equipment, including thousands of parts originating not only from Asia but also from Europe and the US.

Ukraine’s War and Sanctions platform, an official HUR database that tracks foreign components in Russian weapons, outlines several steps manufacturers can take to reduce the risk that their equipment will be used in Russia’s defense industry.

Companies are advised to identify sensitive items that require stricter end-user checks, keep inspection procedures updated with red-flag indicators and sanctions-evasion risks, and ensure that foreign subsidiaries and contractors follow the same standards.

They are also encouraged to use tools such as GPS tracking or remote monitoring to verify where equipment is ultimately used and to turn it off if necessary.
