USA Approves $2.7 Billion Sale of Air Defense Systems to Ukraine
The United States has approved a potential sale to Ukraine of missiles, radars, and other equipment to strengthen its air defense, with a total value of up to $2.68 billion.
This was announced by the U.S. Department of State.
If the deal is finalized, Ukraine will finance the purchase through a combination of contributions from European partners and funds from the U.S. Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program allocated under the previous U.S. administration.
Ukraine has requested the purchase of the following equipment and weapons:
- missiles designated in U.S. documents as S-300 Clone;
- GAM-67 missiles;
- Range-Extended Air Defense Laser-Guided Rockets;
- Improvised Transporter Erector Launchers 1.5;
- kits for modifying mobile launch systems;
- RPS 202 radars;
- trailers with folding masts.
The term S-300 Clone likely refers to new missiles developed as replacements for Soviet-era munitions used in Ukraine’s existing S-300 systems. However, the U.S. side has not disclosed their designation, specifications, or manufacturer.
In addition, the package provides for large-scale modernization and maintenance, the supply of spare parts, consumables, and accessories, as well as the repair and return of equipment.
The potential agreement also includes software, technical documentation, transportation support, and engineering, technical, and logistical services provided by the U.S. government and contractors.
