Lithuania Receives Its First Thales GM200 MM/C Counter-Battery Radar
The first Thales GM200 MM/C multifunctional radar system, designed to detect enemy artillery positions and drones, has arrived in Lithuania.
This was reported by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defence.
The new radars are intended to enhance the reconnaissance and counter-battery capabilities of a division currently being formed within the Lithuanian Army.
According to Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas, they will also enable the detection of FPV drones and improve the safety of military personnel.
The procurement is being carried out as part of defense cooperation between Lithuania and the Netherlands. The corresponding intergovernmental agreement was signed in January 2024.
The total cost of the project is €126.7 million and covers personnel training, technical documentation, spare parts, and specialized equipment.
The Lithuanian company ELSIS TS, a subcontractor of the French firm Thales, has been engaged to carry out the contract. It will participate in the maintenance, modernization, and adaptation of the systems to the needs of the Lithuanian military.
Lithuania and the Netherlands also plan to continue their cooperation on radar maintenance and implement a program for their ongoing improvement.
GM200 MM/C Radar
The GM200 MM/C is a mobile, multifunctional radar station with an active phased array antenna.
It is capable of determining the coordinates of artillery and mortar positions based on projectile trajectories, as well as detecting air targets, including drones.
The system belongs to the Ground Master family of radars developed by the French company Thales and can be integrated with air defense systems.
Other European countries have already purchased similar systems. In particular, Militarnyi reported that Norway had ordered five such radar stations.
