$536 million order from the US for BGM-71 TOW anti-tank missiles
The U.S. Department of War has awarded RTX a $536 million framework agreement to continue production and sustainment of the BGM-71 TOW anti-tank guided missile family. An initial $55 million was obligated at signing, with work scheduled for completion by the end of August 2027.
The department and RTX did not disclose production quantities or additional details of the August agreement. The award extends U.S. support for a missile family that remains widely used by American and foreign forces.
RTX currently has capacity to produce as many as 10,000 TOW missiles a year. More than 700,000 have been manufactured over the life of the program, with more than 11,000 expended in combat worldwide.
Ukraine has received about 13,000 TOW missiles through U.S. military assistance. Ukrainian forces use the weapon from M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and HMMWV-based anti-tank platforms.
Portable TOW launchers may also have been included in U.S. deliveries to Ukraine, according to the report. That element of the assistance has not been confirmed.
The report assessed that the latest production agreement is likely intended to help replenish U.S. military inventories. No breakdown of planned missile production under the $536 million agreement was provided.
The BGM-71 TOW 2B also remains an established export weapon sold through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales system. It is fielded on platforms including the M2 Bradley, HMMWV and M1134 Stryker, as well as locally developed vehicles operated by foreign customers.
