Lockheed Martin and the US Army have tested a new version of the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) for the HIMARS multiple launch rocket system.

The company announced that it had conducted the first flight test of the Precision Strike Missile Increment 2.

The missile demonstrated a new multi-mode guidance system and the ability to engage moving maritime targets. The missile was launched from a HIMARS launcher and flew 350 km.

According to the statement, the new homing warhead will enable the engagement of fast-moving targets on land and at sea, expanding the military’s capabilities during joint multi-domain operations.

PrSM Increment 2 integrates easily with existing HIMARS and M270A2 launchers.

“Increment 2 provides the ability to engage moving ground and maritime threats at long ranges, as required by the Army,” Lockheed Martin noted. The modular design and digital engineering allow for faster system deployment without compromising reliability.

The program is currently in the technology demonstration phase, with additional flight tests scheduled for the end of the year.

Last year, the U.S. Army announced the transition to a new development phase for the PrSM ballistic missiles in the Increment 1 version.
