A separate version of Patria 6×6 APC to be developed for the UK
A separate model of the Patria 6×6 armored personnel carrier will be developed for the British Armed Forces.
This was agreed by the Finnish company Patria and the British industrial group Babcock International Group (Babcock).
On January 22, the companies signed a memorandum to adapt the APC to the British Army’s requirements.
According to the agreement, Patria will lead the design and development of a variant of the existing Patria 6×6 platform and provide customized improvements.
Babcock will ensure the production of these armored personnel carriers in the UK. It will also provide maintenance services for the APCs to keep them operationally ready throughout their life cycle.
The Patria 6×6 is currently being produced as part of the multinational CAVS (Common Armored Vehicle System) program led by Finland and with the participation of Latvia, Sweden, and Germany, which joined in April 2023.
The cooperation between the countries involves the creation of several versions of armored vehicles based on the Patria 6×6 armored personnel carrier, including a heavy vehicle with additional armor.
The program is open to other European countries and allows for coordinated procurement of armored personnel carriers.
Patria has orders for over 800 Patria 6×6 armored personnel carriers, of which more than 200 have already been delivered.
The vast majority of vehicle deliveries are made using the local industrial capabilities of member countries, and each new country strengthens the security of supply for the entire cooperation program.
Germany
The German Ministry of Defense plans to purchase about 1,000 Patria 6×6 armored personnel carriers from Patria to replace outdated Fuchs armored personnel carriers in the army. The agreement is expected to be signed in the summer and fall of 2025.
In mid-February 2024, the Finnish company joined forces with two German companies: DSL Defence Service Logistics GmbH (DSL), a subsidiary of the KNDS Group, and FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH (FFG), to provide the Bundeswehr with the development, production, and maintenance of Patria 6×6 versions.
