Germany delivered another package of military aid to Ukraine, including 6 Gepard SPAAGs

The German government has updated the list of military aid transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In particulfr, six the Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns (SPAAG), ammunition and additional equipment arrived in Ukraine

According to updated list, Ukraine received, in particular:

  • 6 the Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns (in addition to the 34 already sent);
  • 3230 projectiles for 155 mm caliber artillery;
  • 1,184 rounds of 155mm smoke ammunition;
  • the Biber bridge-laying tank and an accompanying bridge;
  • 5 border protection vehicles;
  • 10 laser pointers and 10 fire control stations for the IRIS-T SLM SAM system;
  • one 8×8 HX81 truck tractor train as well as 4 semi-trailers;
  • 24,192 40 mm caliber ammunition for grenade launchers;
  • 2 sets of spare parts for the Vector reconnaissance drones.
  • Earlier Germany presented a $770 million package for Ukraine at the NATO summit in Vilnius, including two new Patriot air defense systems, 24 Leopard 1A5 tanks, 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, and 20,000 artillery rounds.

The Gepard is an all-weather-capable German self-propelled anti-aircraft gun that was designed to cover ground forces and destroy air targets. Two 35 mm cannons, a 7.62 mm MG-3 machine gun and two search and tracking radars are installed on the turret, which is capable of making a full turn.

Ukraine received first the Gepard SPAAGs from Germany at the end of July 2022. In February of this year, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that his country had signed contracts to resume production of ammunition for the Gepard SPAAG, which had been transferred to Ukraine.
