Ahmet Akyol, General Manager of ASELSAN, evaluated the company and the sector in 2024, and talked about their 2025 targets.

Stating that Turkey plays a team game in the defence industry and that ASELSAN is one of the most important companies in this field, Akyol said that they have left behind a year full of achievements under the leadership of the Presidency of Defence Industries and under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Akyol pointed out that ASELSAN provides high-tech systems to the entire defence industry, and said that the company’s electronic systems are used in all platforms, from ships to UAVs, helicopters, aircraft, submarines, tanks and satellites.

“It has been a year full of records for ASELSAN”

Emphasizing that ASELSAN occupies a central position and plays an important role in the sector, Akyol said:

“Last year was a year full of records for ASELSAN in terms of the new contracts we signed in Turkey and abroad, as well as our total sales and deliveries. We exported to 7 countries for the first time, and signed contracts to export 30 products for the first time. We added 29 new products to the inventory of our heroic army, demonstrating our design and engineering power. We will increase this to higher figures next year. ASELSAN has also succeeded in becoming one of the 10 fastest growing defense companies in the world. Therefore, in 2024, with our qualified, dynamic and young staff, we continued to pursue the goals set for us by our nation and state, and we will continue to do so in 2025.”

Drawing attention to the benefits of these efforts for the economy, employment, investment and entrepreneurship ecosystem, Akyol noted that in 2024 they reached a staff of approximately 12 thousand people, of which more than 7 thousand were engineers.

Emphasizing the increase in the number of engineers wishing to return to Turkey, Akyol gave the following information:

“More than 1,000 engineers applied to ASELSAN and said, ‘I want to return to my homeland and take part in these exciting high-tech projects. Last year, there was a four-fold increase in both applications and those who returned to work at ASELSAN compared to 2023. We have offered our young people an environment where they can realize their dreams, where they can access all the opportunities they see in the world’s largest companies in their own homeland, and where they can develop truly game-changing technologies.”

“ASELSAN has made gains in all items”

Akyol explained that they have grown together with more than 3 thousand SMEs in their efforts to nationalize the entrepreneurship and domestic supply ecosystem, and that they offer an entrepreneurial environment for young people.

Emphasizing that they also made a serious contribution to the economy and created qualified employment, Akyol continued as follows:

“The work we do has both an aspect that increases Turkey’s power to have a say in the world, creating confidence for friends and deterrence for enemies, as well as great contributions to the economy, employment, entrepreneurs and the local ecosystem. You will increasingly see our growth rate, investments, new products and game-changing technologies in 2025. ASELSAN’s successful activities also contribute to the economy through exports and production. We also create value for our investors who trust us. When you look at other investment instruments and the average of the BIST 100, ASELSAN provided very serious gains to its investors in all items. Last year, we saw ASELSAN creating value for its country, investors, entrepreneurs, domestic suppliers, its own security forces, and growing step by step, and we will continue on our way in 2025 with this understanding.”

“We are laying the building blocks of the Steel Dome step by step”Akyol stated that they have started new investments worth more than $400 million, some of which have already been put into operation, and added:

“We are continuing to create environments and investments where products worth 20-30 thousand dollars per kilogram, from radar to electro optics, from air defence to micro electronics, can be exported and produced in very high quantities, and where the R&D of some of them can be carried out in a better infrastructure.”Providing information on the 29 new products they have brought into inventory, Akyol continued his words as follows:“Last year, the Turkish defence industry experienced many proud moments, but for us, the announcement of the ‘Steel Dome, layered air defence architecture’ to Turkey under the leadership of our state was important. We are laying the building blocks of the Steel Dome step by step.Last year, we produced and designed the ALP 300-G Early Warning Radar, which is an important part of the Steel Dome, and put it into inventory for the first time. This constitutes the sensor side of the Steel Dome, which detects in the airspace. We are talking about a radar with a range of over 650 kilometers. We also put SİPER, our long-range air defence system, which is an important component of the Steel Dome, into inventory. Thus, we have risen to the level of being a country capable of building a long-range air defence system. Therefore, two important products on both the radar and air defence side entered the inventory last year. While we continue to deliver a large number of HİSAR and KORKUT systems, we have gradually started mass production activities of our new hybrid air defense system GÜRZ.”“We built the best camera in the world”

Pointing out that Turkey can face unjust embargoes while pursuing its just causes, Akyol said that with the ASELFLIR-500, a domestic and national production, they are supporting their own operations while also contributing to friendly and allied countries.

Akyol said that at the end of the first year of the camera’s entry into the inventory, it was used in nine countries and that they had signed export contracts with 16 countries, adding, “It was an example of how to respond to those who put embargoes on Turkey. We are sure that from now on, countries will consider cooperating with Turkey instead of embargo. We also built the best camera in the world. We will continue with this understanding.”

Pointing out that they have also added MARLIN, Turkey’s first unmanned naval vehicle, to the inventory of the Turkish navy, Akyol said that Turkey is in an important position in unmanned naval vehicles, just as it is in unmanned aerial vehicles.
