Babcock Completes Jackal 3 Vehicle Delivery Program for British Army

Babcock has completed the Jackal 3 delivery program for the British Army after the final vehicles rolled off the production line at its Devonport site in Plymouth.

The last platform produced was the six-wheeled Jackal 3 Extenda variant, which will now go through final testing before being put into service with the British Army.

A total of 123 Jackal 3 and Jackal 3 Extenda vehicles were built and delivered in partnership with Supacat, a British defense engineering company that designed and developed the platform.

With the program complete, the army now has a fleet of highly mobile vehicles capable of reconnaissance, patrol, and logistics missions.

“Building on the successful delivery of the initial 70 Jackal 3 vehicles, this enhanced capability reflects our continued commitment to providing the Army with highly capable, adaptable mobility on operations,” said Major General Lizzie Faithfull-Davies CB CBE, Director Land Environment, National Armaments – Material.

The high-mobility, all-terrain Jackal platform is offered in four-wheeled, six-wheeled, and convertible Extenda configurations. It also comes with an optional mine blast and ballistic protection kit.

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract in February 2023 for an initial fleet of 70 Jackal 3 vehicles, with Babcock and Supacat launching production a year later.

By September 2024, the MoD ordered 53 additional six-wheeled Jackal 3 Extenda platforms. Production for the second order began in 2025.

While a total of 123 vehicles have been locked in, the British Army noted that it may exercise options of acquiring up to 240 Jackal systems depending on operational needs.
