China says developed tech to disguise missiles as civilian planes

China claims to have developed a new technology that makes its cruise missiles look like ordinary passenger planes on an enemy radar screen.

Called the “Golden Veil,” the invention reportedly works by altering a missile’s radar cross-section to mimic large aircraft, such as the Boeing 737 or Airbus A320.

It can be attached like an umbrella, allowing an aerial weapon to switch between visible and stealth modes during flight.

The tech is also designed to significantly reduce the time military commanders can respond to the threat, according to a report by South China Morning Post.

‘Changing the Face of War’

The Golden Veil was developed by a research team in northwest China to strengthen the country’s capabilities amid an apparent “technology race” with the US.

It is composed of gold-plated fine metal threads forming a web of intricate geometry to reflect radar signals.

Weighing around one kilogram (2.2 pounds), the tech is compatible with various missiles in the People’s Liberation Army inventory.

It is also reportedly made of low-cost materials, hinting at potential high demand in the future.

According to the scientists behind the invention, the cutting-edge device could soon change the face of war as it has the potential to significantly impact aerial combat strategies.

Potential Challenges

Despite having some promising capabilities, the Golden Veil could still face serious challenges during mass production.

Developers will reportedly need to ensure the consistency of the device’s performance.

In order to do that, China may need to invest more in acquiring advanced automation and production techniques.
