Denmark signs deal for new air defense system
Denmark took a step in bolstering its air defense capabilities with the signing of a contract amendment between General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) and the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO).
Announced last Wednesday, the agreement covers the development and production of the country’s first Skyranger 30 firing units.
Each firing unit will integrate a PIRANHA 8×8 wheeled armored vehicle with an Oerlikon SKYRANGER 30 turret and an advanced Air Defense Command and Control System. These systems are designed to protect military units, command posts, and combat operations from aerial threats, including aircraft, helicopters, and drones.
“We look forward to continuing the smooth collaboration with DALO and our partners in this project,” GDELS said in a statement.
The Skyranger 30 system features a high-velocity 30mm autocannon and missile system, providing a versatile and reliable solution for engaging a range of modern threats. The platform is expected to enhance Denmark’s ability to operate in contested airspaces while ensuring the safety of its forces on the ground.
The Danish Ministry of Defence has emphasized the importance of the project as part of its broader initiative to modernize the country’s armed forces in response to evolving security challenges. The Skyranger 30’s integration with PIRANHA 8×8 vehicles will ensure mobility and adaptability in diverse operational environments.
