Estonian manufacturer Milrem Robotics has presented a new configuration of its unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) in Jakarta, Indonesia.

It equipped its Tracked Hybrid Modular Infantry System (THeMIS) combat UGV with expanded cargo space and armed it with the Valhalla-manufactured Loki remote-controlled weapon station, opening it for viewing at the four-day Indo Defence 2025 forum from June 11 to 14.

This modular variant supports remote threat identification and engagement, direct fire, and counter-drone functionality as part of Milrem’s “Forward Line of Robotics” concept, improving troop survivability in high-threat environments.

“Integrating robotic systems into combat formations allows military units to enhance their operational effectiveness significantly,” company Chief Sales Officer, Patrick Shepherd, said.

“Unmanned systems like the THeMIS Combat extend the reach and capability of existing units, enabling them to achieve more with fewer resources and greater protection.”

Loki Counter-Drone

Loki is a modular, compact, and lightweight turret that supports 5.56mm to 12.7mm caliber ammunition with an engagement range of up to 1,000 meters (3,280 feet).

Beyond traditional armament functions, it can be remotely operated to serve in a counter-drone role.

Pairing Loki’s capabilities with THeMIS’s high payload capacity allows operators to integrate supplies, sensors, and other mission-specific equipment, reducing logistical and cognitive burdens on troops.

Milrem’s participation in a key defense exhibition in Southeast Asia indicates its interest in expanding its market base beyond the US and Europe, where Ukraine adopted the THeMIS ground vehicle for rapid minesweeping missions.
