Finland to Acquire German RGW 110 Anti-Tank Grenade Launchers

Finland will purchase RGW 110 shoulder-fired anti-tank grenade launchers from German company Dynamit Nobel Defence for €84.5 million.
The Finnish Army press service announced the procurement.
Deliveries of the weapons and training equipment will begin in 2027. The number of grenade launchers ordered has not been disclosed.
“Main battle tanks will continue to pose a threat on the battlefield. The new system is designed to destroy them at close range,” said Colonel Ari Mure, Inspector of Infantry of the Finnish Army.
The new system will replace the French-made APILAS anti-tank weapons, which the Finnish Army has been using since the 1980s.
One of the main selection criteria was the munition’s ability to defeat explosive reactive armor and penetrate the main armor of modern tanks. Tests were conducted against targets with characteristics closely resembling those of actual combat vehicles.
Following the tests, the Finnish military and the manufacturer further improved the warhead. The assessment of the weapon system also took into account lessons learned from the war in Ukraine.
The Finnish Army noted that disposable weapon systems allow multiple soldiers to engage a single target simultaneously from different positions. The absence of complex aiming equipment also simplifies personnel training and operation.
RGW 110
The RGW 110 is a single-use, 110 mm anti-tank grenade launcher equipped with a tandem shaped-charge warhead. It is designed to be fired from the shoulder, and the launch tube is discarded after use.
The stated effective range is up to 800 meters. The grenade launcher belongs to the RGW family, which also includes lighter 60 mm and 90 mm models.
Militarnyi previously reported that in 2022, Ukraine purchased 2,900 RGW 90 Matador grenade launchers directly from Dynamite Nobel Defence.
In February 2024, Ukrainian Defense Industry signed a cooperation agreement with the German manufacturer. The two parties subsequently began exploring the possibility of localizing the production of Panzerfaust 3 grenade launchers in Ukraine.
