Four NATO warships are docked in Helsinki
Four warships from the United States, Germany and France docked on Helsinki’s Hernesaari pier on Saturday night. US and German vessels have participated in exercises in the Baltic Sea.
According to the Navy, interest in Finland has increased. The visits are a sign of support for Finland after it applied for NATO membership on May 18, the squadron commander said. Jussi Jämsén.
“This is how we see it. The interest in Finland has been really great. We really appreciate the fact that these ships are visiting Helsinki,” he told Yle.
The Ministry of Defense said on Friday that Finland will intensify its participation in international military exercises. 20 rehearsal and exercise events are planned for the rest of the year, eight of which have been added to the program.
The new exercises are part of preparations for possible disruption caused by Russia during the transition period between submitting a NATO application and accepting membership, the defense minister said.
