France’s New Containerized Launcher Pushes Artillery Reach to 150-Km
FLP-T 150 is a next-gen long-range rocket launcher, capable of striking targets up to 150 kilometers, and featuring a containerized hydraulic launcher for modular reloading.
A new long-range rocket launcher is preparing to enter France’s arsenal, expanding the country’s strike reach on the modern battlefield.
Developed jointly by ArianeGroup and Thales, the FLP-T 150 rocket launcher is designed to engage targets out to 150 kilometers (93 miles), enabling deep-strike missions beyond enemy lines.
The system uses high-speed projectiles and boasts an architecture that draws on technologies associated with ballistic-class systems.
The launcher is built around a containerized module mounted on a hydraulic elevation platform, a configuration intended to simplify deployment and reload cycles through modular ammunition handling.
Officials said the design emphasizes mobility, scalability, and operational resilience, including performance in contested or electronically jammed environments.
The FLP-T 150 is also developed without US components and is positioned outside International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) constraints.
Scaling France’s Long-Range Firepower
The system is part of the Frappe Longue Portée Terrestre program, launched in 2023 by the French Ministry of the Armed Forces to bolster the country’s long-range precision firepower.
Its goal is to deliver a next-gen replacement for the Lance-Roquette Unitaire rocket artillery system currently in service with the French Army.
The effort is projected to cost roughly 600 million euros ($655 million), with plans for an initial batch of at least 13 launchers expected by 2030.
A demonstrator flight is scheduled for later this year.
