The French Army has taken delivery of 16 additional Griffon multi-role armored vehicles, increasing its fleet to 533 vehicles.

According to the country’s defense acquisition arm, 13 of the newly delivered Griffons are in the troop transport variant, while the remaining three are in the command post version.

The vehicles are expected to provide the army with improved speed and maneuverability in conducting a wide variety of missions.

They also offer improved protection to soldiers against ballistic fire and improvised explosive devices.

A total of 887 Griffons are set to be handed over to the country’s armed forces by the end of 2025.

Additional Features

The Griffon is a 6×6 armored vehicle jointly developed by Nexter Systems, Renault Trucks Defense, and Thales.

It comes in different variants, including artillery observation, recovery, refueling, and medical evacuation.

It also has a remotely operated turret equipped with a 12.7-millimeter or 7.62-millimeter machine gun.

With a modular design, the vehicle can reach a speed of 90 kilometers (56 miles) per hour and steer within a radius of 7 meters (23 feet) due to its rear steering axle.

The Griffons are replacing the country’s armored front vehicles.

In July, the French Army received its 500th Griffon as part of a 1.2-billion euro ($1.35 billion) contract signed last year.
