According to information published by the South Korean Agency for Defense Development, the future anti-submarine warfare unmanned underwater vehicle (ASWUUV) was successfully tested near Tongyeong, South Korea.

The Anti-submarine warfare unmanned underwater vehicle (ASWUUV) is a weapon system that has been under the supervision and development of the South Korean Agency for Defense Development since 2017.

The ASWUUV is 6.5 meters long and weighs 9 tons. It can navigate at a speed of 3 to 10 knots by receiving power from a high-capacity fuel cell. It can be operated for up to 30 days at a maximum depth of 300 m or more.

The weapon system performs the mission of surveillance and tracking of enemy submarines in a certain area of water, and surveillance and lockdown of enemy ships passing through a special area.

The Agency for Defense Development plans to complete the development of three core technologies for electrifying the unmanned underwater vehicle in September, the autonomous operating system, the miniature sonar, and the hydrogen fuel cell.
