General Dynamics UK launched an upgraded variant of the Foxhound protected patrol vehicle at Defense Vehicle Dynamics 2024 in Bedfordshire last week.

The Foxhound General Multi-Role Vehicle is designed for versatility and to operate under tough conditions.

Its modular design allows adaptable roles for the vehicle and offers enhanced protection and firepower, while retaining the platform’s mobility.

The variant has space for a self-defense weapon in the crew compartment and for a NATO pallet at the rear for the installation of “multi complex mission systems such as Short-Range Air Defence Systems,” General Dynamics UK stated.

As the original version, the new Foxhound will be developed and manufactured in the UK for the British Army, and for exports to the allies and partners.

A total of 400 vehicles were ordered by the British Army in 2012 to protect the infantry primarily from mine blasts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It weighs around 7,500 kilograms (16,534 pounds) and has a top speed of 82 miles (132 kilometers) per hour.

General Dynamics UK is planning to pitch the improved version under the British Army’s land mobility pipeline program, which seeks replacement of a number of existing protected mobility platforms.

The estimated 1-billion-pound ($1.3 billion) program is expected to field replacements in four categories: a general-support variant, light, medium, and heavy protected variants.

It is expected to be launched in 2025 with the key requirement of a hybrid engine.
