Germany has taken delivery of its 52nd A400M military transport aircraft, Airbus Defence and Space said.

According to Airbus Defence, the aircraft is the 52nd A400M delivered to Germany as part of the Luftwaffe’s ongoing airlift modernization program. The delivery adds another operational airframe to Germany’s strategic and tactical transport fleet, which is used for troop movement, heavy cargo transport, and international missions.

The A400M is powered by four turboprop engines generating a combined output of about 44,000 horsepower. Airbus said the aircraft has a maximum speed of up to 750 kilometers per hour and a maximum range of more than 8,700 kilometers. When carrying its full payload of 37 metric tons, the aircraft can operate over distances exceeding 3,300 kilometers.

The aircraft is designed to operate from short and unpaved runways, allowing it to support missions in austere environments where conventional transport aircraft cannot operate. This capability enables the A400M to deliver cargo and personnel directly into forward areas without reliance on fully developed airfields.

The A400M serves as a multi-role airlifter capable of transporting armored vehicles, helicopters, pallets, and humanitarian aid. It also supports medical evacuation missions and aerial resupply operations. The platform is positioned between smaller tactical transports and larger strategic airlifters in terms of size and payload.

Germany is one of the largest operators of the A400M and uses the aircraft for national defense tasks, NATO commitments, and international deployments. The Luftwaffe has employed the aircraft in missions ranging from logistical support in Europe to long-distance transport for overseas operations.

As noted by Airbus Defence, the A400M’s performance allows it to combine speed, payload, and range while maintaining the ability to operate from semi-prepared surfaces. These characteristics are intended to support rapid deployment and sustainment of forces under a wide range of conditions.

The delivery follows a steady pace of handovers to the German Air Force as Airbus continues to fulfill existing production commitments.
