Germany Begins Serial Production of GEREON Ground Drones for Ukraine
The production launch marks the next phase of the companies’ strategic partnership signed in October 2025, to scale manufacturing of autonomous battlefield systems.
German companies Deutz and ARX Robotics have started serial production of the GEREON unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) in Ulm, Baden-Württemberg, with the first systems scheduled for delivery to Ukraine later this year.
The production launch marks the next phase of the companies’ strategic partnership signed in October 2025, to scale manufacturing of autonomous battlefield systems.
Under that collaboration, the consortium will expand the GEREON family with hybrid and combustion-powered variants alongside the existing battery-electric model.
They also will integrate ARX Robotics’ Mithra OS autonomous software with Deutz’s powertrain technology.
Beyond vehicle production, Deutz will provide field energy infrastructure, including generators, energy storage systems, and replaceable batteries in support of the UGV fleet.
ARX Robotics will also leverage Deutz’s global manufacturing and service network to increase production capacity and maintenance support.
“Alongside technological know-how in the powertrain market, industrial scaling potential is a key strength of DEUTZ,” said Marco Herre, CEO of Deutz Defense. “To deliver the Gereon to Ukraine, we are ramping up production at our Ulm plant.”
GERON Specifications
Developed by ARX Robotics, the GEREON is a medium-sized UGV designed for all-terrain operations.
It can be operated manually from up to 4 kilometers (2 miles) away or navigate in full-autonomous mode.
The platform is equipped with a thermal night vision payload, has a charging time of 2.5 hours, and can cover areas up to 40 kilometers (25 miles).
GEREON has an operational endurance of 72 hours, a maximum load capacity of 500 kilograms (1,102 pounds), and a speed of 15 kilometers (9 miles) per hour.
