Germany has unveiled what military aid it plans to send to Ukraine, including advanced air defense systems, main battle tanks, and drones.

As the Russian-Ukrainian conflict drags on, the new German military aid will boost Kyiv’s air defense and combat capabilities.

Since 2022, EU member states have donated 38 billion euros ($41 billion) in military aid, of which nearly three-quarters (28 billion euros or $30 billion) came from Berlin.

The package includes three Patriot and IRIS-T air defense systems, crucial for protecting airspace against missile and drone attacks.

Additionally, it contains 500 Stinger anti-aircraft missiles and 2,700 Strela surface-to-air missile systems, along with guided missiles and radar stations for detecting and tracking aerial threats.

Germany will also provide 4,000 attack drones to enhance Ukraine’s offensive capabilities, as well as 361 Songbird reconnaissance drones.

For armored warfare, Berlin will provide Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 main battle tanks, as well as 140 Marder armored personnel carriers to improve Ukraine’s ground mobility and protection for troops.

Budget Reduction

Germany is the second-largest arms supplier to Ukraine after the US and has transferred 7.5 billion euros ($8 billion) worth of equipment from its Bundeswehr stockpiles this year.

In 2025, the budget proposal allocates 4 billion euros ($4.3 billion) to support Kyiv, a nearly 50 percent reduction.

Although military aid to Ukraine will be reduced, Germany will still meet the NATO target of spending 2 percent of GDP on defense in 2025, a total of 75.3 billion euros ($81.6 billion).
