India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation has conducted two successful flight tests of its indigenously developed very short-range air defense system (VSHORADS) missiles.

Two missiles were launched on September 27 from a ground-based portable launcher at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha state in the east.

According to Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, both flight tests completely met mission objectives, providing a technological boost to the country’s armed forces.

‘Novel Technologies’

“VSHORADS missile incorporates many novel technologies including miniaturized Reaction Control System and integrated avionics, which have been successfully proven during the tests,” India’s Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

The missile’s dual thrust solid motor allows the neutralization of low-altitude aerial threats at short ranges.

The portable air defense system missile is considered the military’s last line of defense against enemy combat aircraft and helicopters.
