TARSIS, VALERO, and MTR 5 are Indra’s new generation of battlefield technologies, combining advanced unmanned systems, multipurpose aerial weapons, and next-gen radar.

Spanish defense giant Indra highlighted a suite of cutting-edge unmanned systems, counter-drone tech, and multi-function radars at the Spanish Army’s 2E+I Forum 35.

Now in its eighth edition, the event brought together senior defense leaders and industry representatives to witness the latest advances in battlefield automation.

Manuel Rodríguez Cerezo, director of Indra’s Weapons and Ammunitions division, said the war in Ukraine continues to drive a global shift toward robotized engagements.

He presented the “Tarsis” family of unmanned systems, which includes variants for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance, and another armed version for unarmored targets.

Cerezo also unveiled VALERO, a multipurpose aerial vehicle-based weapon system capable of disrupting enemy defenses, acting as a decoy, or operating as a missile. He described it as a cost-effective, multi-domain solution suited for modern combat scenarios.

Mobile Counter-Drone Defense

During a roundtable on counter-drone warfare, José Carlos Hidalgo, head of Counter-Drone Systems Engineering at Indra, announced the company’s development of a new mobile counter-unmanned aircraft system.

The system combines detection, electronic warfare, and distributed command and control across several interconnected vehicles.

It also reportedly creates a “mobile protection bubble,” enabling units to operate safely in contested environments.

Hidalgo stressed the importance of integrating sensors and effectors and noted the system’s compatibility with both Indra and third-party technologies.

Next-Gen Radar System

In another session, Miguel Ángel de Díez, Indra’s operational advisor for Land Systems, presented the MTR 5, the company’s new fifth-generation multifunction radar.

Designed for high-intensity combat, the radar can detect and track both surface and aerial targets, including low-signature drones, with greater accuracy than existing counter-battery systems.

With a range of over 90 kilometers (56 miles), the system can pinpoint the origin of enemy fire, alert threatened units, and provide targeting data to interception systems.

It can be mounted on a vehicle for rapid deployment and features a reduced radar signature for improved survivability.

The MTR 5 can also operate independently or as part of a wider surveillance network.
