Iraq purchases air defense systems from South Korea
The Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that it signed a contract with a South Korean company to purchase advanced air defense systems.
The modern medium-range systems will bolster Iraqi military forces’ capacity to uphold the country’s sovereignty and preserve peace, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
During a ceremony held to sign the deal, the Iraqi Minister of Defense, Thabet Al-Abbasi, said that the new systems will cover all of Iraq’s airspace and achieve regional balance for the country, marking a strategic breakthrough in air defense.
Al-Abbasi promised to keep working to maintain national sovereignty and raise the standing of the Iraqi army.
The two countries enjoy close and ongoing collaboration on a large scale in numerous domains, including political, economic, military, and other significant fields, as acknowledged by the South Korean Ambassador to Iraq.
There is mutually beneficial advantage and prosperity in the connection between South Korea and Iraq, and it is anticipated that the Iraqi military will continue to advance and strengthen, according to the South Korean diplomat.
