Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has unveiled a compact, lightweight electronic support measures system, deployable on a range of ground, sea, and air platforms.
An unnamed customer has placed the first order for tens of the system, named TacSense, the Israeli defense technology firm revealed.
Compact and Versatile
The system’s small size allows discreet installation on ground-based military assets, while individual ground soldiers can carry the manpack version easily, even in challenging terrain.
The device “detects, accurately geo-locates, and tracks radio-emitting threats such as communications systems and radars,” providing situational awareness to platforms that cannot carry large sensors.
Monitors Communications, Detects Radar
TacSense’s built-in COMINT (communications intelligence) sensor system monitors voice and other communication transmissions while its ELINT (electronic intelligence) capabilities detect, analyze, and classify radar emissions, including the latest Low Probability of Intercept emitters.
The system provides real-time information on hostile electromagnetic activity, even “beyond visual range, and even under deep cover, where radar and EO/IR (electro-optical/infra-red) systems are unable to penetrate.”
The system’s strength and utility multiply manifold when used alongside other platforms. These include air defense and ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) radars, sniper and other long-range weapons, self-protection radars, and search & rescue systems,” the company stated.
“With the ever-increasing proliferation of radar technology in the tactical arena, whether for defensive purposes or targeting, ESM (electronic support measures) is gaining critical importance in contending with the electronic threats,” vice president & general manager Adi Dulberg said.
“With TacSense, we are now able to answer the need for a compact and cost-effective ESM system with superb performance.”
