L3Harris unveils Wolf-series light cruise missiles

L3Harris Technologies has introduced two cutting-edge launched effects vehicles, Red Wolf and Green Wolf, designed to meet the Pentagon’s demand for versatile and affordable long-range munitions deployable across air, ground, and maritime platforms.

The announcement, made on Thursday, highlights the company’s rapid progress in developing modular systems to enhance U.S. military capabilities in contested environments.

“Our launched effects ‘wolf pack’ provides U.S. military branches – regardless of platform – with a significant advantage in closing long-range kill chains, defeating adversarial threats in challenging environments and protecting assets,” said Ed Zoiss, president of Space and Airborne Systems at L3Harris. “The Red Wolf and Green Wolf are lethal, modular, affordable and ready to hunt.”

According to L3Harris, Red Wolf serves as a kinetic platform designed for long-range precision strikes. In contrast, Green Wolf specializes in electronic warfare missions, featuring electronic attack capabilities alongside detect, identify, locate, and report functions. Both platforms are equipped with advanced software that supports in-flight collaboration, re-targeting, and swarming operations using autonomous aircraft.

The vehicles, which the company has spent the past five years designing, developing, and testing, are touted as flexible and recoverable systems. More than 40 test flights have already been conducted to validate their performance, the company said.

L3Harris added that the Red Wolf and Green Wolf systems can integrate quickly with various military platforms, offering commanders new options for striking high-value targets and disrupting enemy operations at extended ranges.

The company plans to build dozens of these systems under a low-rate initial production phase by the end of 2025. This effort will be supported by expanded infrastructure and automation capabilities aimed at accelerating deliveries to the U.S. Department of Defense.

With their modular payloads and swarming functionality, the L3Harris platforms could play a key role in the U.S. military’s future operations, particularly as global security challenges intensify.
