Leaked: Ukraine Asks Germany for IRIS-T Missiles, GPS Jammers, Armored Vehicles
A confidential Ukrainian request for military aid from Germany has been leaked, revealing Kyiv asking for advanced air defense systems, armored vehicles, and electronic warfare systems.
Ukraine is seeking four IRIS-T fire units, 1,500 IRIS-T SLM missiles, 500 IRIS-T SLS missiles, and 200,000 rounds of 40mm anti-drone ammunition.
The request also includes 1,000 mine-protected vehicles, 200 tracked vehicles, 30 mine-clearing tanks, 20 to 30 WiSENT armored engineer vehicles, and 200 all-terrain vehicles for special forces transport.
To strengthen electronic warfare defense against Russian drones, Kyiv is requesting 1,000 GPS jammers and 200 mobile ground radars.
Ukrainian military planners have reportedly presented the list, worth billions of euros, to the German government already. This was confirmed by military sources, according to the German news outlet Bild and the German Aid to Ukraine (GAU) watchdog.
However, the German Federal Ministry of Defense refused to comment on the matter.
“For reasons of military security and in view of the German government’s new line of communication on support for Ukraine, we do not answer questions about individual support services,” a spokesperson told Bild.
German Support for Ukraine
Germany increased its support fund for Ukraine from 7.1 to 8.3 billion euros ($8.3 to $9.7 billion) this year.
From the leaked weapons wishlist, the GAU believes that Berlin already granted the IRIS-T request when Diehl Defence was contracted to deliver four complete sets of IRIS-T missile systems for Ukraine in May.
Apart from the list, Berlin announced that it was considering purchasing more Patriot air defense systems for Kyiv.
Furthermore, Germany and Ukraine signed a memorandum of understanding in May to develop a long-range weapons system that can strike deep into Russian territory.
