The Netherlands has ordered 6 new 155 mm DITA self-propelled howitzers from the Czech Republic for Ukraine.

This is reported on the website of the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands.

The Dutch Defense Minister announced the new aid for Ukraine during a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels.

In addition, the Minister also stated that the previous 9 ordered DITA systems had already been delivered to Ukraine this summer.

“Ukraine has a huge need for weapons and ammunition. Russia is deploying a huge number of personnel to the battlefield. We must continue to help Ukraine defend itself. That’s why, together with the Czech Republic and Denmark, we are working hard to deliver armored howitzers and ammunition next year,” said the Defense Minister, Ruben Brekelmans.

The first order of 9 DITA self-propelled guns for Ukraine was announced in February 2024.

This self-propelled artillery system, manufactured by the Czech company Excalibur Army, uses 155 mm shells and has a range of up to 39 km. It is based on the original Czechoslovakian concept of Dana vz.77 howitzers built on the chassis of a Tatra truck.

Due to the high level of automation, the DITA has a high rate of fire with only two crew members—a driver and a commander—and a 40-round ammunition capacity.

The vehicle has a modern on-board control system, the ability to quickly deploy to and from combat positions, and good cross-country ability.

The concept uses a fully autonomous superstructure. The comfort and safety of the crew are ensured by a cabin with STANG 4569 Level 1 protection.

On the left side of the superstructure, there is an emergency seat that can also be used to carry a third crew member if needed. This space can be used in the event of an accident or to adjust equipment.

In an emergency situation, it is also possible to manually point and load the gun, as well as to aim using the mechanical panorama installed at this operator’s workstation.
