Norway Accepts First Valkyrie Drone Swarm From Six Robotics

The Norwegian Army has officially received its first Valkyrie drone swarm from Six Robotics, along with training and onboarding services for its future operators.

The drones are considered a product under development, resulting from a collaboration between the Oslo-based firm and the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI). Additional systems are scheduled to arrive in the coming months.

Following delivery, the drones will undergo operational testing within the army’s maneuver units and at the Army Weapons School. Insights gathered from soldiers during these trials will guide further refinements to the system, according to Six Robotics CTO Dr. Jan Dyre Bjerknes.

Bjerknes emphasized that the company builds technology side by side with its intended users.

“If you are not close to the operators who will use the product, you quickly end up building the wrong things,” he said.

“We need to see what works and what doesn’t, not in theory, but in practice. That’s how we make sure our systems solve real problems for the people on the ground.”

Valkyrie

Valkyrie “allows autonomous assets to work together at scale, regardless of platform or mission type,” Christian Fredrik Eggesbo, Six Robotics Founder and CEO, told Janes in January 2025.

According to the company, the Norwegian Army has already demonstrated the Valkyrie system in joint exercises with Norway, Sweden, and Finland.

In early October, the service selected the system in a pilot program where several army units will use the system to assess its performance and how it can help improve military operations.

It will be fielded “to support training and exercises with advanced unmanned systems, preparing soldiers for future combat environments defined by autonomy and speed.”
