The US Army has contracted Oshkosh Defense to deliver over 400 medium tactical vehicles for $141 million.

The US Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command Life Cycle Management Command order is for 414 A2 (FMTV A2) Medium Tactical Vehicles and 56 FMTV trailers.

The vehicles are expected to be delivered through November 2024.

Upgrades

In 2018, Oshkosh clinched a $476 million FMTV A2 contract.

The next year, the company received another contract to deliver 354 FMTV A1P2 trucks and trailers to the army for $75 million.

“Since we were awarded the FMTV A2 production contract in 2018, we’ve worked closely with the US Army to refine the platform and add additional capabilities,” Oshkosh chief program officer Pat Williams said.

The A2 is an upgrade on the A1 variant, offering “increased force protection, greater payload capacity, superior off-road mobility, enhanced engine power, and an upgraded electrical system,” Oshkosh said.

HIMARS Platform

The FMTV comes in two weight categories: the Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (2.5-ton payload capacity) and the Medium Tactical Vehicle (5-ton payload capacity).

The vehicle performs “general resupply, ammunition resupply, maintenance and recovery, and engineer support missions.”

It also serves as a platform for weapons such as the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System.
