Philippine, Ukrainian forces buy South Korean military trucks
The Philippine Army has awarded a contract for Daewoo Novus 6×6 military cargo trucks, following Ukraine’s recent adoption of the South Korean-built platform for combat support operations.
According to local defense sources, the Philippine Army is set to receive a fleet of 8-10 ton cargo trucks supplied through a domestic contractor. The trucks are expected to be delivered in the coming months as part of efforts to modernize the Army’s logistical capabilities.
The service already operates several Daewoo Novus vehicles in a wrecker configuration, acquired in a previous procurement cycle. The latest order expands the fleet and introduces new variants configured for troop and cargo transport.
Ukraine earlier fielded a substantial number of Daewoo Novus trucks for its Armed Forces, using them in various roles, including as platforms for mounting specialized engineering equipment. The adoption in both Ukraine and the Philippines highlights growing interest in the South Korean truck family for military applications in diverse environments.
The Daewoo Novus, built by the South Korean manufacturer Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle, is widely regarded for its payload capacity and adaptability to multiple military roles.
The Philippine Army is undertaking several modernization initiatives under its long-term transformation roadmap, with mobility and engineering support listed as priority areas.
