Poland has ordered more than 200 AGM-88G (AARGM-ER) long-range anti-radiation missiles from the United States.

Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh signed the contract on January 28. The contract is worth approximately $745 million, and missiles will be delivered in 2029-2035.

According to the Polish Ministry of Defense, the AGM-88G Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missiles Extended Range (AARGM-ER) missiles range over 200 km.

In April last year, the U.S. State Department approved the potential sale of such missiles and the corresponding logistics package to Poland.

The purchase is part of the armament of the fifth-generation F-35A fighter jets ordered from the United States, which will soon join the Polish Air Force’s combat aircraft fleet. It is also likely that the missiles can be adapted for use by Polish F-16 fighters.

AARGM-ER

The American AGM-88G (AARGM-ER) missile is designed to destroy enemy air and missile defense elements, as well as ground and shipboard radars.

The AARGM-ER is installed on the US Navy’s carrier-based aircraft, including the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, EA-18G Growler, and F-35. In addition, the US Navy is testing a ground-based version of this missile.

The AARGM-ER control system includes an inertial system, a GPS navigation system, and a WGU-48/B active-passive radar with an active Ka-band sensor (frequency from 26.5 to 35 GHz).

The missile is equipped with a 70 kg WAU-7/B high-explosive warhead. It contains 12845 tungsten preformed fragments and an upgraded explosive charge, which provides a high destructive power.

It can penetrate a 12.7 mm thick metal sheet or a 6.35 mm thick armored plate from a distance of up to 6 meters.
