Poland has signed a 150-million Polish złoty ($39.9 million) contract to acquire thousands of 120mm tank rounds from Mesko, a subsidiary of state-owned PGZ.

Each 7.3-kilogram (16-pound) Armor-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding-Sabot Tracer (APFSDS-T) munition, with a propellant charge of 8.4 kilograms (18.5 pounds), is designed to pierce heavily armored targets.

The rounds feature a GUW-7-120 electric primer for reliable ignition that achieves a muzzle velocity of around 1,670 meters (5,479 feet) per second. They were designed to be fired from the Rheinmetall Rh-120/L44 tank gun mounted on the Leopard 2 main battle tank operated by the Polish military.

In addition, the Polish-made ammo reportedly has potential compatibility with the M256 gun used on the M1 Abrams tank, also in service with the armed forces.

It also conforms to NATO standards, boosting interoperability with allies.

Deliveries are scheduled between 2026 and 2027.

“Mesko is a company with many years of experience that represents the highest production standards. We are proud to consistently supply the Polish Armed Forces with products known for their proven reliability, effectiveness, and quality,” said Renata Gruszczyńska, President of the Management Board of Mesko.
