In South Korea, the first FA-50PL fighter jets designated for Poland have entered the production line, as revealed during a recent visit by a Polish journalist Juliusz Sabak to Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) facilities.

This follows Poland’s 2022 defense acquisition deal with South Korea, aiming to bolster its aerial defense capabilities amid rising regional tensions and the evolving security landscape in Europe.

Korea Aerospace Industries officials confirmed that six FA-50PL jets are currently under production in anticipation of an accelerated delivery schedule. Once completed, these jets will be deployed to the Polish Air Force as part of the broader contract, which entails 48 units overall. The production progress marks a key milestone in the expanding defense collaboration between Warsaw and Seoul.

The FA-50PL is a light combat aircraft based on the original FA-50 model but customized for Poland with enhanced avionics, weapons integration, and tactical versatility to align with NATO’s operational standards.

The FA-50PL contract also includes comprehensive pilot training and technical support programs, ensuring that Polish pilots and ground crews are fully prepared for the aircraft’s operational integration. In addition to FA-50PL’s primary role in close air support, reconnaissance, and light attack, Poland’s version will receive further modifications to enable a more extensive suite of armaments, enhancing its versatility in both national and alliance-based defense frameworks.

In recent years, Poland has pursued rapid upgrades in air, land, and sea defense platforms, including acquiring Abrams main battle tanks from the U.S. and HIMARS rocket artillery systems.
