The US Department of Defense has awarded Raytheon a $1.02-billion contract to produce Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensors (LTAMDS) for the US Army.

The deal serves as a modification order for a base contract valued at $2.1 billion, which was signed by the company in 2024.

That framework includes another $1.7-billion sale announced in September 2025, increasing the project’s current value to $3.8 billion.

Work for the latest order will be facilitated at Raytheon’s facility in Andover, Massachusetts, and is expected to be completed by March 2030.

Throughout the effort, the company will coordinate with the US Army Contracting Command in Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, which oversees contracting and associated progress for the initiative.

Raytheon’s LTAMDS System

The LTAMDS is a capability designed to replace decommissioned radars that are part of the Patriot surface-to-air missile defense network employed by the US military and its allies.

It can mitigate the impacts of both current and future airborne threats at speeds of Mach 5 (6,174 kilometers/3,836 miles per hour).

Additionally, the solution provides 360-degree coverage and can target multiple enemy assets at the same time.

In January, Raytheon teamed up with TTM Technologies to support ongoing developments under the LTAMDS program.

TTM is set to receive up to $200 million over three years for the supply of critical components such as radio frequency assemblies, circuit boards, and electronic parts.
