Report: Taiwan to build missile-proof hangars
Taiwan is developing hangars that can withstand China’s powerful ballistic missiles, Taipei Times reported, citing an air force official.
The Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology has already reviewed the design of 36 planned hangars to be built at an air base in Taichung.
They will be designed to survive potential Dongfeng missile strikes by China’s People’s Liberation Army.
The missile-proof hangars will reportedly protect the island nation’s military aircraft and preserve its combat capability in the event of a Chinese invasion.
The Taiwanese government is allocating 4.39 billion new Taiwanese dollars ($136.5 million) for the new hangars.
The country will finalize the project design and conduct a risk assessment by the end of this year before construction begins.
Work for the project is scheduled to be completed by 2026.
