The United States is proposing to provide Israel with B-2 Spirit bombers capable of destroying Iran’s protected nuclear facilities.

The idea was put forward by two American lawmakers, Democrat Josh Gottheimer and Republican Michael Lawler, Fox News reports.

The parliamentarians registered a bill that authorizes US President Donald Trump to transfer B-2 Spirit bombers and special anti-bunker bombs to Israel if Iran continues to develop nuclear weapons.

Gottheimer proposed a similar bill back in 2022 and 2024, but it has never gone beyond consideration in the House of Representatives.

“Iran, a leading state sponsor of terrorism and one of America’s greatest enemies, should never have nuclear weapons. That is why I strongly supported our military action earlier this month. Iran has killed dozens of Americans, including our military personnel, and has repeatedly attacked our key democratic ally, Israel. Israel must be able to defend itself and ensure that Iran does not regain its nuclear capabilities,” Gottheimer stated.

The United States has never previously transferred such aircraft to any of its allies. The US Air Force currently has 19 B-2 bombers in service.

“This bill gives the president the authority to provide Israel with the tools and training it needs to deter Tehran and create a safer world,” Lawler noted.

On June 22, the U.S. Air Force already used these aircraft to strike three nuclear facilities in Iran – in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

The operation was called Midnight Hammer. It involved more than 125 aircraft, including seven stealthy B-2 Spirit bombers. The flight lasted 18 hours.

Six B-2 bombers were deployed to attack Fordow, and one bomber was used to strike the Natanz facility. At the same time, submarines also took part in the attacks on Natanz and Isfahan, firing 30 Tomahawk cruise missiles.

In total, 14 GBU-57 MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrator) super-heavy non-nuclear anti-bunker bombs capable of destroying targets at a depth of more than 60 meters were dropped on Iran. The bomb weighs 13,600 kg, of which 2,423 kg is the warhead.
