Royal Thai Army’s high-energy laser weapon targets hostile drones with precision, offering a high-tech shield amid rising border tensions.

The Royal Thai Army has unveiled a high-energy laser weapon designed to counter the increasing threats posed by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Classified as a directed energy weapon (DEW), the system reportedly emits a powerful energy beam with “pinpoint precision” to neutralize low-flying or fast-moving UAVs, even at night.

By intercepting drone threats mid-air, the weapon helps prevent potentially destructive attacks on Thai soil.

“If the enemy hides in the shadows, we will be the light that sees them first,” the army said on its Facebook page. “Every inch of Thai airspace and territory is protected by cutting-edge technology and the unwavering vigilance of our warriors.”

While technical details like power output and range were not disclosed, the Royal Thai Army publicly tested the system at Air Force Base 1, under the oversight of the country’s Air Weapons Testing Center.

Reinforcing the Border

The laser reveal comes amid increased tensions between Thailand and its neighbor Cambodia. Despite an official ceasefire, both sides have reported ongoing drone activity along their shared border.

Thailand has since imposed a nationwide ban on drones for two weeks, citing fears of potential surveillance by Cambodian troops.

The DEW is being positioned as a direct response to these threats, with the Thai army calling it a “clear warning” to those who challenge the country’s national security.
