The Russian Defense Ministry has received a “large batch” of upgraded Su-57 fighter jets, manufactured by United Aircraft Corporation, a subsidiary of state-owned Rostec.

The fifth-generation fighters were upgraded to meet the military’s operational requirements and combat conditions, featuring advanced onboard systems and a modern weapons suite.

According to Rostec head Sergey Chemezov, the aircraft completed a full cycle of factory trials and operational evaluations, resulting in upgrades that make them “more powerful and dangerous,” as quoted by Anadolu Agency.

Su-57 Fighter Jet

The Su-57, designated “Felon” by NATO, is a multirole combat aircraft designed to replace Russia’s aging Su-27 and MiG-29 fighters.

Measuring 20 meters (66 feet) long with a wingspan of 14 meters (46 feet) and armed with a Gryazev-Shipunov autocannon, guided and cluster bombs, as well as air-to-air, air-to-surface, anti-ship, and anti-radiation missiles, it engages air, ground, and maritime targets.

It has a service ceiling of 20,000 meters (65,617 feet), a range of 4,500 kilometers (2,796 miles), and a top speed of Mach 2 (2,470 kilometers/1,535 miles per hour).

Meanwhile, Moscow has reportedly explored exporting the Su-57 to Iran, Ethiopia, and Algeria, according to leaked files published by the hacker group Black Mirror.

The country is also reportedly eyeing local production of the fighter jet in India.
